Will Ritchie

Will’s Story:

Will was obviously a clever student but was beginning Year 3 with very low literacy skills despite a great deal of intervention. Will then began the Hickey Mulisensory Language Program with Lesley and, gradually at first, his skills began to grow. By the end of Year 4 Will was reading at year level standard and by Year 6 was the top reader in his class. Will effectively uses assistive technologies to assist him to write high level text and is flourishing in secondary school.

Parent Testimonial:

“We could not be happier with how Lesley has assisted our boy in becoming a confident and competent reader.
Our son has a severe form of dyslexia and reading provided a great frustration for him as he moved through Primary School. Taking focussed classes with Lesley showed steady improvement term on term, to the point that our son was reading at the highest levels within his class group.
He has since moved onto high school and is achieving great things, and actually got an A for English in Semester 1 and received a school award for his achievements.
We thank Lesley at every opportunity for how brilliantly she has prepared our boy to succeed in life after school, and provide him with limitless potential.”

Lachlan Staunton

Lachlan’s Story:

Lachlan was diagnosed with dyslexia in Year 1, and despite a great deal of intervention Lachlan found school an impossible place in which to be comfortable. Beginning Year 3 Lachlan started each day with inconsolable tears, and once inside the classroom spent much time with his head in his hands. He then began the Hickey Multisensory Language Program with Lesley.  Gradually school made more sense to Lachlan as his literacy skills began to grow. Lachlan is now completing secondary school and is looking forward to a bright future.

Student Testimonial:

“My name is Lachlan. I am in year 12 at Helensvale State High School. I have dyslexia. I started working with Mrs Dyer when I was in year 3. She helped me learn the rules of English which I use to this day. I enjoyed the lessons with her. I found them fun and I was learning at the same time. Sometimes they were the only things that made sense in my day. It was a safe space and she was very encouraging . I actually felt like I wanted to and could learn. These days I am confident in my ability to read. I am in mainstream classes getting mostly b’s with a few a’s. I am doing a school based traineeship which has the potential to lead to full time work. I am considering further study at university.  To anyone who is struggling to learn to read, I can say that she definitely helped me.”

Parent Testimonial:

“My son Lachlan worked with Lesley for 4 years. He  grew from an anxious year two student who struggled to learn the alphabet to a capable, confident high schooler who attends mainstream classes, attaining A’s and B’s. I have no doubt that it is due to her patient dedication and expertise that Lachlan has the reading and writing skills to follow whatever path he chooses. We are lucky to have known her.”
